Prison Regulations for Clearing the Gatehouse.

North Carolina and Pasquotank Correctional Institution has strict rules and regulations for entering the prison.  These conditions apply to everyone who enters the institution including staff, volunteers, visitors, and vendors.

All personnel must be able to clear both the metal detector and the cell sensor. If you have a medical device that sets off either detector, you must present documentation from a doctor identifying the device and where it is located. If you cannot clear the detectors, it is up to the Officer in Charge (OIC) as to whether you are allowed to enter or not.  Kairos volunteers WILL  NOT CHALLENGE THE DECISION OF THE OIC.

Everyone must present a picture ID; volunteers must also present a current blue card. No volunteers are allowed to enter if they forget their card or if it is expired.

Clothing must be suitable. No open-toed shoes, sandals, or flip-flops. No tank tops or spaghetti strap tops. No clothing that is see through or has any obscene language. No spandex or other type of tight fitting clothing.

In the past several situations have ocured that need special note:

  • Belts that have buckles with designs such as anchors that can be used as a weapon are not allowed
  • Bras with metal wire in them may set off the metal detector.  It is suggested that these not be worn
  • Those with leg or arm braces with metal should have a note from a doctor desribing the need
  • Pants should not be worn as "low riders"
  • Wearing watches are discouraged
  • Kairos volunteers should arrive at the gate house at the same time for Prayer and Share and Weekend Ministry.
